Designing and constructing automated soxhlet extraction machine
Indonesia is a country rich of essential oil producing plants. Because of that, it becomes a world major producer of essential oil. The export of such essential oil provides a valuable income for the country. In this thesis project, cinnamon is used as the raw material for extraction. The types of commodity and percentage of rendement obtainable will influence the extraction methods. This thesis aims to design and construct automated soxhlet extraction machine featuring faster production time, less solvent consumption and simpler operating procedure compared to the current soxhlet extraction technology. A PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) is introduced to control the process. The basic extraction principle of this machine is adopted from soxhlet extraction and steam distillation method.
