Extraction process upscaling of cymbopogon citratus (lemongrass) on optimum AGI level

Cymbopogon citratus (lemongrass) has a great potency to be commercialized as anti-diabetic medication due to its alpha glucosidase inhibitor (AGI) activity. In order to achieve the goal of commercialization, the present work continues the study of process optimization at pilot scale and to see the effect of sample quantity on AGI activities. The experiment was divided into three phases: designing the percolator, optimizing process parameters and obtaining the correlation between sample quantity and AGI activities. Two important parameters for optimization were maceration step and flow rate variations. Maceration step was varied in two conditions, with maceration or without maceration. Flow rate was varied in four variations, 63.09 cm 3 /s, 94.64 cm 3 /s, 126.20 cm 3 /s, and 189.30 cm 3 /s. 400 grams and 500 grams of sample quantity were used for up-scaling analysis.
