Modification of a modular processing station (mps) into an integrated processing station (ips) with central control using profibus implementation
Modular Processing Station (MPS) in Swiss German University consists of four stations which are distribution station, testing station, processing station, and handling station with robot. Each of these stations is controlled by its own Programmable Logic Controller (PLC).rnIn this system four PLCs are needed to control an integrated process which actually can be controlled by a single PLC. To improve this process these stations will be modified into an IPS system where all stations are controlled by a single master PLC with distributed Input/Output (I/O) communicating through Profibus.rnThis will be done by changing the PLC in the first station from a stand-alone PLC to a PLC with integrated Profibus interface. The PLCs in other stations will be changed with distributed I/O modules.rnIn doing so, a major change must be done in the programmed software. Instead of four sets of programs for each station, there will be a single set of programs for all the stations.rn
