Application of a magnetic card reader using a microcontroller in the Swiss German University (SGU) Library

Nowadays, magnetic stripe card has been commonly used such as in the company and ATM card. Each Employee has a magnetic stripe ID card. This card can be used as a absence card, pass card (for entering a secured room). With the same analogy, the purpose of this thesis is to apply the security system and automation into SGU library. Only authorized person will access the SGU library. Every SGU student will have a student card equipped with magnetic stripe on the back card. The student ID has an unique ID, will be recorded on the magnetic card. Complete information about the student will be stored in the student database. After swiping the card, the computer, which is consisting a student database will check and search the student data whether valid or not in the database. If the student ID is available and matches, then the computer will display the menu on the computer screen and information of the student and respective action or task can be activated.rnUsing this magnetic card reader the campus and academic activities will be automated.
