A quality control concept for the enhancement and adjustment of an implemented information system

Nowadays many companies rely on their Information System for doing their daily businesses. Software or Computer Application which is the major component of an Information System play important role on helping companies doing their businesses. As businesses growing, changes or modifications of the Application are also needed so that the Application can help the company keep up with growing business. Not only modifications, sometimes bug fixing to the Computer Application is also needed because bug could disturb the business processes of the company through the application. rnrn After the Application is finished with its modifications, enhancements or bug fixing, it will be put once more to the operational environment. Operational environment is where usually the applications that are used by the End User placed. The process of implementing the enhanced Application to operational has some threats. For example: we migHTM not know whether enhanced software is working as it is wanted to be. If the software do not working properly, there is a chance that the whole Information System also not working correctly. Therefore, some methods to ensure the suitability of the enhanced software with the old or new environments are needed to reduce those threats.rnrn Research and literature review are performed by the author in order to find a suitable procedure or methods for the quality control for the enhancements and modification of an implemented application or software. The first research is done in one company in Jakarta to observe how the company manages to maintain the quality of its application after it has been enhanced or modified. Second research is performed in SGU. As a new University the author will try to figure out how SGU maintain the quality of one application that they frequently used. rnrnSince the application is the one that being enhanced or modified. The ISO 9000-3 is become the standard for the development of the application. ISO 9000-3 is an example of Quality Management System that was design specifically to fit the system development life cycle. System Development Life Cycle is often used as a frame work to the development of an application or software. Therefore, ISO 9000-3 frame work can act as a guidance to ensure the achievement of good computer application. rnrnBy the end of this thesis the author will try to design a procedure that suitable for SGU in order to maintain the quality of its application after it has been enhanced or modified. The author will also try to create a prototype of an application that can help SGU track the enhancements or modification that is done on one of the application. It is hopes by using the procedure and the prototype application SGU could have a good quality application in order to increase its performance for servicing the students, staffs and lecturers and also could fulfill the requirements that are needed to achieve the ISO certification.
