Designing and constructing an optical disc encoder for depth and a strain gauge for cable tension measurement in oil wells
This thesis is intended to design and construct a device which measures the depth of the oil well. The device is designed to put down the calliper into the bottom of the well which will measure the area each step, therefore the volume of the well can be measured. The device is attached with limit switches to detect if the calliper has already reached the bottom of the well or to detect if the calliper has already reached the top of the well. The microcontroller is used as a controller to control the system of the device. It processes inputs signal and produces outputs signal. Optocoupler is used to count the cables' length whether it is going up or down, while the cables' tension is measured by means of a strain gauge. The main purpose of the thesis project is developing a device that measures the depth of an oil well and the area at each depth of measurement.
