Designing and constructing a balancing machine for a rotor
Balancing machine for rotor is a machine to determine the location and magnitude of balancing masses needed to balance the unbalance mass in a rotor. First, the rotor is rotated using a motor connected by a belt until it reaches a certain rpm speed, then signal from each the load cell transducer is observed. Once there is an unbalance mass or more in the rotor, it will generate a resultant centrifugal force that will load the load cell transducer. The signal obtained from the load cell transducer will form a sinusoidal signal. If there is no unbalance mass in the rotor, the output signal from the load cell transducer will remain constant at a certain value. Another sensor, photo sensor, is used to obtain the angular position of the resultant unbalance mass and the rotational speed of the rotor. By processing the signal received from both sensors, the position and the magnitude of the required balancing mass on the predetermined plane can be calculated.
