Developing a particle measurement system using coulter principle

Lifendi, Endo - Personal Name; Hoffmann - Personal Name;

This project is intended to implement basic electrical engineering into a particle measurement sensor. The particular sensor, which was invented around fifty years ago, is then developed with contemporary electronics. By doing this, the new sensor is expected to be able to provide more reliable and accurate output. The mechanical design of the old sensor uses tubes while the new design will be completely different. The new design of the sensor allows it to be floating on top of the measured liquid. This thesis project will deal mostly with testing and perfecting the sensor; ways to avoid leakage at the sensor and testing the resistance of the particular liquid. The calculations used to design the electrical circuit will be based on basic electrical engineering principles. Implementation and testing of the sensor system in this project with successful experiments prove that sensor development using advanced electrical technologies still to large extent depend on the most simple and basic electrical principles.
