Implementation of the configuration information functions of the eirp (end-system intermediate-system routing protocol)
The objective of this thesis is to build the routing protocol that resides in the network layer of ATN TP4/CLNP Networking Suite. The routing protocol is specified in ISO/IEC 9542:1994(E) and has two main operations, which are the configuration information operation and route redirection information operation. The scope of this thesis work is to build functions that support the operation of configuration information. Those functions are report configuration, record configuration, protocol error processing function, PDU header error detection, configuration response, flush old configuration, query configuration, and protocol timers (configuration timer and holding timer). All of the functions have been built, but only two of the functions, which are report configuration function and protocol timers, have been tested and worked properly. The other six functions could not be tested since the implementation of the supporting functions, which are out of the scope of this thesis, have not been finished. To conclude, the current implementation of routing protocol in end system is able to send the end system configuration information to intermediate systems and later the intermediate systems will be able to route packets to the end system.
