The implementation of xml (extensible mark-up language) for information retrieval

Hermawan, Dian Kartikasari - Personal Name; Indrajit, Richardus Eko - Personal Name;

The purpose of this project is to develop an application that can be used to help people in searching for files. The application will effectively provide for SMART Company that still searches the data of their company manually. This project also proposes to prove that XML can be used to retrieve digital data from the server. This application was built only to search the properties of documents that were inputted by user and save them into XML file. This application do not search through every inside document.rnrnThe application consists of several parts such as Home module, Login module and XML module. The user uses it as a local website. The core of this thesis is preceded by the theories that are related to and support the application realization, such as ASP (Active Server Pages), JavaScript and HTML. Microsoft Access will be used as a database engine, Microsoft IIS (Internet Information Services) as the application server. rnrnThe appropriate approach that was used is SDLC (System Development Life Cycle) approach which is the process of developing application through investigation, analysis, design, implementation and maintenance. The SDLC approach that is, most predictive is called a waterfall approach (Satzinger 2005). Modified waterfall has been chosen as a methodology. It is because no matter what system is being developed, the developer still needs to include planning activities, analysis activities, design activities and implementation activities. The developer including the author just can not do them in pure waterfall steps.
