Development of multithreaded server application for ISO 8583 financial transaction message processing using EDC (Electronic Data Capture) devices as clients in Sun Javatm Technology

This thesis exposes the development of a gateway server application, which is a part of a commercial project carried out by PT Nera Indonesia, an electronic payment solution company wanting to develop their server software locally to accommodate their client's customization. Java technology is considered the right tool to do the job for the availability of high-quality and free foundation classes and libraries. A major component of the system is the usage of ISO 8583 standard for electronic financial transaction messages as the format of communication between EDC terminals and the server. The integration technique with client's back-end is also discussed. It is a very interesting case study in software development in regards to the development process and methodology. Using Agile software development method, this project has achieved a very good result and software quality. The product of this work has been deployed in the real production environment and fulfilled its objectives.
