Impact analysis of movie piracy towards movie industry in Jakarta

Movie piracy is one of the prominent concerns of the digital era, encompassing a tangled web of economic, social, cultural and political issues. The movie industry suffers heavy losses not only in Jakarta but also worldwide due to copyright piracy. The question of how to crack down on copyright piracy and protect intellectual property rights in order to promote the healthy development of movie industry in Jakarta has become a significant concern for many people in the movie industry.rnrnThis is mainly a qualitative research. As a part of the study, a field research and an in-depth interview were conducted with several relevant organization in the movie industry in Jakarta including ASIREVI, GPBSI, LSF and PERFIKI. In addition, questionnaires was distributed among consumers of pirated movies.rnrnThe result of this research describes the impacts of movie piracy and the piracy stage on Jakarta movie industry. Movie piracy is a special subject for research. There are no official statistics available, organizations dealing in pirated movies usually have connections with the criminal world. To protect the safety of the interviewees, this report does not disclose the sources for most statistics, apart from a few public sources cited.
