Transforming traditional musical instruments to become popular culture

Indonesia consists of culture differences that draw people' characteristics and produce varieties of culture form. One of the cultural forms is traditional musical instrument. The faced problem is people, young generation especially; do not take care of it anymore. It becomes the impact of the people mindset about westernmodernism is always interesting rather than traditional culture. As a result, traditional musical instruments are less popular compared to other musical instruments. This thesis is conducted in a purpose to study the depth of awareness of traditional music among young people and to find ways to attract young generation to become interested in the traditional music. The research method used is inductive-descriptive with quantitative data as the primary data and will be supported by using qualitative data. The study will be correlated with the related theoretical concepts and logical explanation. The data collected is gained from the combination of literature review from books, articles in magazines, website, interview, and questionnaires with the respective sources, community and angklung community.
