The operation of coal mining industry is having impacts on the surrounding environment and local communities. This thesis explore how the coal mining companies in South Borneo applies the strict standards on all phases of its operations through an Environmental Policy and Master Plan to ensure that these are minimized. The results of interviews from four coal mining companies in South Borneo will be reported and discussed. The coal mining companies in South Borneo has implemented Article 74 of Law No. 40 Year 2007 regarding Tanggung Jawab Sosial dan Lingkungan (TJSL) through their own community development and environmental management programs. rnAside from several issues that faced, some coal mining companies in South Borneo are complaining about the bureaucracy in Indonesia Government is tend to harden the process for the company in their effort to implement TJSL program.
