Determination of total soluble solid of guava by using near infrared reflectance

Aswanti - Personal Name; Purwadaria, Hadi K. - Personal Name;

Method to assess the internal quality of guava is essential to sort the prime quality without damaging the fruits. One of the methods is using NIR. The purpose of this research is to utilize NIR method in evaluating the physico-chemical properties of guava fruit and to determine the total soluble solid content and the fruit firmness of guava fruit by NIR.rn NIR method had been successful in evaluating the total soluble solid content and the firmness of guava fruits without destructing the fruit. Prediction of total soluble solid, which was done by stepwise method, resulted in 18 chosen wavelengths; 900, 910, 955, 960, 970, 980, 1000, 1040, 1065, 1070, 1125, 1130, 1140, 1145, 1160, 1200, 1225, 1290 nm, while for the guava firmness, there are 24 wavelengths; 925, 960, 970, 980, 995, 1010, 1060, 1070, 1085, 1110, 1115, 1120, 1125, 1135, 1165, 1175, 1180, 1190, 1200, 1295, 1325, 1340, 1380, 1390 nm. Predicted total soluble solid and fruit frmness by NIR was reliable to the actual total soluble solid and firmness measured by conventional analysis, respectively, at the level of 0.8721 and 0.7643.
