PT. Arun NGL strategy to optimize human resource towards the downsizing company
PT Arun NGL located in Lhokseumawe, Aceh is an operating company that is processing natural gas into Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). The company has 6 (six) LNG Trains complete with its supporting facilities. The natural gas supplied from the gas fields at onshore and offshore. Peak production was achieved in 1994 with total production were 224 cargoes of LNG and all LNG trains were in operation. Declining natural gas reserves in the gas field has required PT Arun to perform certain actions in order of efficiency in all sectors especially in the optimization of the LNG plant operation. LNG production will be ended in 2014 with the number of LNG to be produced is at about 15 cargoes and only one train will be operated. At peak production the company employed 2090 employees and will certainly need to reduce to an ideal number until the end of production. This thesis will focus and analyze on how PT Arun NGL optimizes the human resources towards the company downsizing. Downsizing is a company strategy to reduce the scale (size) and scope of it business in order to minimize inefficiency and improve the company?s financial performance. The downsizing is the management effort to create a lean company that can become more efficient, effective and contributes the benefits for PT Arun to maintain the company financial performance due to production declining. Work Process Re-engineering (WPR) is implemented by the company to get a leaner and more ideal organization and number of employees. Exceeding employees need to be laid off focusing on non-core position to meet ideal organization. The data collected through this study used qualitative research method, which involve collecting, analyzing and interpreting data by interviewing people.
