An analysis of pertamina's corporate social responsibility 2009 towards the millennium development goals commitment
Indonesia is one of the 189 signatory of the Millennium Development Declaration to support the realization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in 2015. The MDGs consists of eight time-bound goals that aim to improve the lives of poor people around the world. As the State Owned oil and gas company, Pertamina has the commitment to support the government to achieve the MDGs through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). However, Pertamina did not show any significant effort for its commitment on the achievement of MDGs. As its CSR is still poor in substance and weak on management, Pertamina could not conduct an ef- fective CSR, also could not implement the eight goals of the MDGs to its CSR programs. Therefore, the purpose of this research study is to observe Pertamina?s CSR in 2009 towards its effort in supporting the government for the achievement of the MDG?s commitment. The study summarized that Pertamina did not adhere to its commitment to support the government MDGs, as the company still did not show any effort to implement the eight MDGs to its CSR programs. Pertamina argued that supporting the MDGs would not give any added value for the company. Pertamina is optimistic that the company will also able to improve social well- being in Indonesia by carrying out its existing CSR focus subject areas. However, Pertamina is currently working hand in hand with its units and subsidiary companies to manage a structured CSR. Hence on, the study discovered that Pertamina has no clear success measurement for its CSR that inhibits the company to identify its CSR level of achievement.
