Optimization of fermentation and hydrolysis process of seaweed waste for bioethanol production
Nowadays, many countries including Indonesia have faced problem about energyrncrisis. Bioethanol as an alternative renewable energy sources is produced to replacernthis limited energy. The purpose of this research is to obtain the optimum conditionrnof hydrolysis and fermentation of seaweed?s waste to support bioethanolrnproduction. This research is divided into 5 main processes which are cultivation ofrnTrichoderma viride and Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Agar solid waste preparation, rnenzymatic hydrolysis of seaweed?s waste in order to get glucose for furtherrnfermentation, simple sugar fermentation by using Saccharomyces cerevisiae, andrncrude ethanol analysis by GC. Temperature, pH, and time are defined as prerndetermined variable. The experiment data showed that the optimum condition forrnbioethanol production is at pH 4.8, temperature 25oC, and time of 2 days. Itrnproduced 10.59 ┬▒ 0.17 % by weight total reducing sugar and 0.13 % (w/w) crudernethanol.
