Design and construction of thermally combined microcurrent electrical therapy device for rheumatoid arthritis treatment ?ö¼├í
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic disease that destructs the cartilage withinrnjoints and causes inflammation. Even though RA cannot be cured, its progress can bernslowed and its symptoms can be managed by applying microcurrent and thermalrntherapy to enhance the regeneration of the joints. The aim of this thesis is to combinerntwo different therapeutic modalities, called as Thermally combined MicrocurrentrnElectrical Therapy (T-MET) device, which consists of Microcurrent ElectricalrnTherapy (MET) and thermal therapy. For MET, the resulted output was square wavernwith fix 50% duty cycle, adjustable frequency (0.31 ? 100Hz), and adjustable currentrnamplitude (36 - 466┬╡A). The microcurrent was delivered by means of electrodes andrngel. For thermal therapy, a thermal pad was used as the contact application to thernpatient body. Two different modes were provided: heating mode (up to 40oC) andrncooling mode (up to 15oC). The heat and cold were produced from peltier devicesrnwhich were controlled by TC4S controllers.
