Citizen journalism has played an important role in becoming the voice of therncommunity that has added social benefits; civil advocacy, mutual feedback forrnimprovements and increasing the skill sets of the average civilian contributor. As arnwhole it citizen journalism functions as a tool improve the standard of living within itsrncommunity and overall image.rnUsing Swiss German University?s student publication Aktuell, this research sets out torngauge how beneficial the presence of strong citizen journalism could be in arnuniversity setting. By utilizing qualitative data (gained through interviews, focusrngroup discussions and observations) through content and narrative analysis this thesisrnwill determine the impact that Aktuell has upon the university, and the reasons behindrnthe effectiveness or non-effectiveness of its presence.
