Impact of competition and global financial crisis on bank's net interest margin

This study aims to figure out the impact of competition on bank performance in Indonesia before and after financial global crisis. The data comprise of 19 publicly listed banks in Indonesia and use only secondary sources as data collection method. In this thesis, the analysis is conducted through Eviews to identify the competition in banking industry and examine the relationship between competition and net interest margin before and after crisis. Through this study, it is also identify the relationship between financial global crisis and net interest margin. At the later phase, the study conclude that there is a a positive relationship between competition and NIM before crisis period, but turned out into negative after the crisis began. Financial global crisis in fact decreased the level of NIM in Indonesia.
