Prototype application development for machining optimization of involved cutting parameters in the milling process
In metal cutting industries, machining plays a very important role. Machining process involved several cutting parameters to remove some geometry work piece into value added product through machining operations. This thesis addresses the existing problem of how to set cutting parameters with the combination of cutting speed (v), chip load (f), depth of cut (d), width of cut (w) and concern about cutting tool optimization.rnOptimization of cutting parameters receive less attention, then broken cutting tool, rejected parts or machine breakdown are unavoidable. In practice, the operator does not have suitable tool to assess whether the v, f, d, w combination is appropriate to machine parts with factory policy. They are set by operator's experience or by looking at manual tables, which are difficult to use. This application software optimizes cutting parameters based on production time and cost per unit. Furthermore, the implementation of process optimization in this application is based on the Taylor Tool Life formula. The functionally-tested application is a prototype with a prospect of becoming a very helpful tool in the future for machine operators to find a proper setting of cutting parameters with consideration of several machining limitations.
