Extraction of candlenut oil using cold press method

Wijaya, Tony - Personal Name; Pandjaitan, Maruli - Personal Name;

Until now, candlenut oil extracted in Indonesia is still rejected by most countries due to its poor quality resulted from poor extraction method. The main goal is to extract a good quality of oil that is accepted for export. This research tries to distinguish candlenut oil quality and quantity extracted using new technology known as cold expeller press compared to normal expeller press which is regularly and currently used. The main difference between the two methods is the extraction temperature as in cold expeller press the addition of cooling system is introduced to the process to control the temperature at 20┬░C, while in the normal expeller press, extraction temperature can raise to higher than 40┬░C. From the result of the experiment, it is shown that oil extracted using cold expeller press have higher unsaturated content and vitamin E thus can be concluded to have a better quality than oil extracted from current process though its yield is lower.
