The Study of butterfly pea root extract effects to heart rate of rabbits

Vitri, Eflin Adrian - Personal Name; Pandjaitan, Maruli - Personal Name;

The extract of Butterfly Pea root is believed to increase Acetylcholine content inrnbrain, which lead to decrease of heart rate. The objective of this research is to studyrnthe effect of Butterfly Pea root extract to heart rate when administered to rabbit beforernfurther administered to human. Preliminary research was done to find the bestrnextraction procedure of Butterfly Pea root using three factors : solvent (water andrnethanol), temperature (25oC and 50oC), and duration (2 hours and 4 hours). Finally thernmost effective extract was tested on rabbits to see the effect on its heartbeat rate, as anrnindicator of acetylcholine reaction. The most effective extraction was using water atrn25oC for 4 hours. The extract had 2.4701 % ┬▒ 0.0076 of total solid content andrn770.408 ┬▒ 10.101 mg/L polyphenol content. The heartbeat of rabbits which were fedrnwith extract was significantly decreased after 6 days of feeding. The heart rate wasrndecreased 30 minutes after the extract given, up to 150 minutes, and then the heartrnrate went back to normal. Group B rabbits (4 ml extract/kg weight) heart rate wasrnsignificantly decreased lower than group A rabbits (2 ml extract/kg weight). The heartrnrate of group A was decreased up to 14.87% and the heart rate of group B wasrndecrease up to 15.14% compared to the first day of measurement.
