Characterization of isolated Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) from infected human in Tangerang area
Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that causes high number of deaths in women in Indonesia. Cervical cancer is caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV). The most common type of HPV that cause cervical cancer in Indonesia is HPV type 18, followed by HPV type 16 and 52. In this research, we would like to detect the presence of HPV from women in Tangerang Area, and to analyze the nucleotide sequence of the isolate to identify the type of HPV. Out of 83 samples analyzed, one was positive to HPV type-33 partial L1 region amplified using MY09/MY11 primers set. This isolate of HPV type-33 is less common type of HPV causing cervical cancer in Indonesia. The study concluded that among 83 women sampled in Tangerang area, the percentage of women infected by HPV is less than 2%.
