Information technology architecture planning at SGU

The huge influence of Information Technology in supporting the progress of a university places Information Technology as a substantial asset for universities. It makes universities put their big investment in Information Technology field. In order to make the right investment in IT sector, it is important to determine the role of Information Technology in universities, IT only as a support, IT as a backbone, or IT become the competitive advantages for the university. Since SGU will migrate to the new campus building, as well as further growth, it is imperative to upgrade overall IT Architecture Planning and consolidate the role of Information Technology in SGU from IT only as a support become IT as a backbone. The main purpose of this research paper is to assess the current and future IT architecture of SGU to be aligned with the business need to support in the area of Application, Information, and Infrastructure. The Architecture Framework that will be used to assess the new SGU IT Architecture Planning is The Zachmann Framework and The Open Group Framework (TOGAF). Zachman Framework is an Enterprise Architecture Framework which is used as a guideline to make SGU IT environment taxonomy and TOGAF is an open industry standard architecture framework which is used as guidance in the developing process of new Information Technology Architecture in SGU. This paper is a part of overall IT planning which consist of IT Governance, IT Service Management, and IT Architecture. This study focuses on IT Architecture Planning at SGU.
