Analysis of image quality produced in terms of sharpness by manual and auto focus fixed lens on a Nikon D200 digital camera

Romano, Prio - Personal Name; Purnama, James - Personal Name;

This research purpose is to explore the quality of images produced by different types of lenses. Image qualities are determined by several factors, and one of the most important factors is sharpness which is defined by the boundaries between zones of different tones or colours. As it is arguably the most important photographic image quality factor : it's the one most closely related to the amount of detail an image can render. Public sometimes do not realize that manual lenses can produce an even sharper image than an auto focus lens, and how sharpness is one of the essential parts in producing a quality picture. The main method of this research is using an image analysis tool to measures image sharpness. The primary sharpness indicator is MTF50, the spatial frequency where contrast drops to half its low frequency value. Spatial Frequency Response (SFR), also known as Modulation Transfer Function. rnrnWhere (?,?) are spatial frequency in the x- and y-plane, respectively and The OTF accounts for aberration. Using and image and print it on a high quality inkjet printer, then assembles one or more test images into a target. The image analyzed will be tilted between 1 and 10 degrees from horizontal or vertical, with 3 to 7 degrees optimal. The tilt is required to obtain a good distribution of sampling phases. We then photographed the target under good conditions, which is using an even light with no glare, sturdy camera support. Finally, and run the image analysis tool. We will then analyze the graph of result that will be shown after testing.
