Development of blood glucose biosensor coating using corn starch based polymer

Muzakkie, Fitri Muhani - Personal Name; Kartawiria, Irvan S. - Personal Name;

Polyssacharide based polymer has been used widely in pharmaceuticals, food, and also biomedical fields. This project is focused in developing corn starch polymer as biosensor coating as well as a carrier of enzyme immobilisation. Corn starch formulation is produced with compositions of corn starch (76.34% - 77.45 %) - glycerol (20.10% - 20.50%), and carrageenan (2.050% - 3.56%). Glucose Oxidase (292.61 U) is entrapped in each of this medium sample. The optimal modified film (76.34 % corn starch, 20.10% glycerol, and 3.56% carrageenan) allows encapsulating enzyme of average 43.10 % of initial loaded enzyme according to the spectrophotometric method. This reduction of activity may due to heating during one of the process. The result enables measuring of current flow using analytical instruments with availability of suitable electrode. However the film exhibits a few limitations in its properties that need to be further researched and developed.
