Analysis of maintenance to improve the effectiveness of plant availability - a case study at PT.X Engineering, West Java
The main purpose of this research is to analyze maintenance, by studying the present maintenance approach, in pt.x engineering, west java, indonesia, to improve effective plant availability by analyzing different innovative maintenance approaches, considering advantages and disadvantages of these approaches popularly used in companies. This research uses a case study approach. Data collection methods used are questionnaires, personnel interviews, documents reviews, historical records, direct and participatory observation, and literature studies. A combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis methods are used to analyze the data. This research finds that the plant availability is mostly influenced by maintenance. We can also notice that an effective maintenance approach can significantly improve the effectiveness of plant availability and it is a major factor influencing maintenance. Majority of the respondents reported that maintenance resources are the most influential factor that contributes to maintenance. Research concludes that total productive maintenance (tpm), which builds equipment competent operators by involving operators in maintenance function and is focused on improving availability, is a very effective maintenance approach that ensures overall equipment effectiveness. Tpm can be a suitable maintenance approach for pt.x engineering to help to improve the effectiveness of plant availability.
