Development natural mosquito repellent from solanum nigrum (black night shade) fruit

Empirically the oil based extract from Black Nightshade dried fruit has been proved to eliminate mosquitoes' larvae. Hence, the purpose of this research was to develop natural mosquitoes repellent out of the oil based. The effective repellency, pH, and color of the products (lotion & spray) were examined. The extraction methods used were continuous leaching (soxhlet) and distillation method. The oil based then formulated into lotion and spray. The concentrations of both products were varied into 1.25%, 2.5%, 5%, and 10%. The effective repellency was increased significantly as the higher oil concentration added into the mixture. 10% concentration from each product provided the best skin protection against mosquitoes. pH of the products ranged between 5.1-7.4. It was considered safe for the skin and it did not cause irritation.
