Development of Iris Segmentation Module for Iris Based Biometrics Identification System
Security threats have become serious topics in this world. This condition led identification technology shift into biometrics. Iris is considered as the most accurate and reliable identification system because iris unique between individuals. the Agency of the Assessment and Application of Technology (Badan Pengkajian dan Penerapan Teknologi; BPPT) has initiated the research on Multimodal Biometrics identification system, where iris identification is one of the modules. Valentina (2012) made a first prototype of iris recognition system. the first step of iris recognition is iris segmentation. the previous system face a problem that it cannot exclude the eyelids when do the iris segmentation. This research is conducted to enhance the iris segmentation part. Two systems are proposed in this research; they are double circular Hough transform and gradient magnitudes with conditional dilation where both of them can work with concentric and non-concentric eye image. Based on the experiments, the success rates for iris localization is 89% and 72%.
