Policy development for bring your own device (byod) policy in organization
B.y.o.d. (bring your own device) is an emerging trend where employees bring personal mobile devices to the workplace and access corporate resources such as email, documents, reports, together with their personal data. According to the research conducted by ipass (2012), using personal devices at work has some benefits such as more productivity, flexibility, freedom and choice etc. However byod also has potential risks to information security such as unprotected sensitive data being stolen, use of unapproved applications, inadequate separation between work and personal use, additional risks arise due to legal liability and governance (asd 2013). The literature reviews indicates that risks can be partially mitigated by controlling personal device through policy (asd 2013). This research presents consideration from it perspective for leadership consideration in organization when developing an organization-wide policy to address that allows secure use of personal mobile devices and manage the risks associated with these devices while allowing support for organization benefit. Literature published between 2001 and 2013 is examined in regards to following categories: (a) policy development, and (b) mobile security and governance and (c) best practices. Research method used for research is using qualitative method. The final result of this research is bring your own device policy from technical perspective.
