Thickness Control Influenced By Different Factors
Quality is becoming the basic consumer decision factor in many product & services. Therefore quality improvement progra is important to enhanced competitive position, increasing productivity, reducing cost. Some of industries like packaging, steel mill, etc. are focusing at thickness issue as one of their quality improvement programs.nnThe purpose of the study was to know basic principle of thickness control, and influence of inputs variable to product. And also will give overview how a thickness control device can improve quality of products.nnThickness control model which used in this study is using ultrasonic sensor as measurement device. This ultrasonic sensor have operation frequency about 40 KHz. From time propagation and angle of ultrasonic wave from transmitter to receiver, sensor can knows distance between sensors and object. With subtraction distance between sensors to object and distance to reference, we will know thickness of object/material. If sensor detects that a certain area is thicker than setting value and then computer will not activate the heater of the mentioned area to decrease flow velocity of material.nnThe results showed that with using thickness control, we will get good mean quality level and good dispersion of the range, and also for PCR (Process Capability Ratio) the machine with thickness control have value higher than without thickness control. This values will impact to nonconforming parts during production process. Using thickness control will improve quality product and decrease production cost.
