Design and implementation of virtual private network with linux based machine

bachri, thomas y. - Personal Name; Anoraganingrum, Dwi - Personal Name;

In today's competitive age, companies are looking for cost-effective solutions in all their activities. From improving what they are usually do in their business to change radically the way they do the business starting from zero. Also in the way they communicate each other, to their branch offices, business partners, suppliers, vendors, etc. they always look for the very efficient way to communicate. Wide area network (wan) as the solution for companies, who are separated by the long distance, has been proven to provide the effective way to connect their branch offices, business partners, etc.nnThe radical process of wan communication is the trend to use the public infrastructure, the internet, for private communications. This will lead to the term virtual private network (vpn), which consists of encryption, authentication, hashing algorithm, firewall, and network layer tunneling technologies. Those technologies make sure that companies are safe to use the unsecured internet as their private network.nnThe improvement of the vpn itself is in the selection of the vpn devices. In the emerging of linux as a unix-like open source operating system, which is also known as a free, low-cost, efficient and fast-performing system, encourages networking practitioners to use linux as the alternative for vpn devices. This paper covers how vpn works, designing a vpn network and using linux-based machine as the alternative for vpn devices.n
