Designing database structure to support customer relationship management system: case study in a cosmetic casing company

dinata, herman - Personal Name; Usino, Wendi - Personal Name;

In today's global economy, in order to remain competitive, a company must continue to seek better long-term relationship with its customers. Price is no longer the single factor that determines everything between a supplier and a customer. Even though price strategies may still work well in the short-term, building a long lasting relationship with customers may require more than just varying the price levels. Customer relationship management has been the newly emerging concept in gaining a competitive advantage over a competitor.nA case in point that this thesis will attempt to examine is cosmetic packaging co. (cpc) in jakarta, indonesia. Cpc specializes in manufacturing and filling the plastic cosmetic casings, and making of powder puffs. Cpc's products are well known among cosmetic companies in the local markets. Stringent quality control with regular exports to regions like japan and north america have shown that cpc has the quality to compete in the world cosmetic casing markets.nAside from a vast technical knowledge about the mold and its injection molding facilities, there is very little information about its customers found in a physical database. These information about customers are largely stored within the memory of each salesperson assigned to handle different customer accounts. Some of the loyalcustomers are only well known among the directors. This kind of knowledge management of customer's order pattern or behavior, if properly recorded, may help to improve the relationship with its customers as well as to come up with new innovation to attract new customers to the company.nThis thesis will attempt to design a proper but simplified database structure that would hopefully help the management or the whole marketing team to store and make use of the invaluable information or experiences with its customers.n
