Designing a production database: study case in a piston manufacturing company
This thesis is made for a piston manufacturing company (pmc) in database design. A pmc is a company that under license from a japanese company and meet customers' quality standards requirements. The standards are usually very high particularly for customers with well known brand names. The tolerance between one grade piston to another with three micron. One piston is checked by approximately one hundred and sixty criteria of rejection production process. This company is currently the biggest piston manufacturing in indonesia that produced piston as genuine parts. Most ot the products are sold in local market with around ten percent exported to japan. nnWith total employees near five hundreds in production division, it is trying to solve problems that related with information system.nnIn preparation of the solution to the above problems with analyze company situation, user's habits considerations, define the problem, define objectives, and define boundaries. In database designing process, the steps that are used: business rule, entity relationship diagram, transformation from entity relationship to logical records structure, logical record structure, relational table, normalization, and physical design.nnBy using query in access 2000, the important production data that are needed, we can be got them. From this data we shall make production report timely and more reliable.
