The Impact of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Project on Promoting Sustainable Development in Cement Industry: A Case Study at PT XXX
The cement industry produces approximately 5% of global man-made CO2 emissions worldwide, the use of renewable fuels, are in the forefront of ecological concerns and public discus­sions. Cost competitiveness, global competition and profitability are the concerns of business. The challenge facing today's cement business society is to balance environmental pro­tection, economic interest and social responsibility to its community. The main objective of the study is to come out with the impact analysis of CDM project on promoting sustainable development (environment, economic and social impact), based on case study at cement industry PT XXX. The CDM project at PT XXX consists of a partial replacement of coal in the kiln system by biomass waste. The research concludes that by implementing CDM project at PT XXX will provide positive impact on company's sustainable development initiatives. The project will reduces up to 5 million ton of CO2 emission, reduce fossil fuel (coal) usage up to 2 million tons, provide additional income and employment to farming community and provide suitable financial return to the company.
