Productivity and Efficiency Analysis of Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Operations: A Case Study Implementing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) Metrics at PT. Bayer Pharmaceutical
The study is about Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and its implementation to pharmaceutical manufacturing operations. Today's manufacturing operations have become very complicated and robust Key Performance Indicator to monitor the effective performance of the operating assets is required. Overall Equipment Effectiveness is the KPI method required to be implemented.nThe study is carried out at Bayer Indonesia Cibubur Plant as a pilot project of OEE implementation. The study is expected to provide management with clear evidence on the use of the OEE program to measure and improve the factory performance. The result expected from the study is the OEE level of the factory, evaluation of the effective implementation of the OEE pilot program, investigation of the potential association of the OEE metric to customer service level, and identification of the hidden cause (problems) and area of improvement. nThe study is quantitative and qualitative study. The research was based on extensive observation and time study. Data is collected through manual time study on the shop floor, verified, and analyzed by the research team. The qualitative approach by interview and questionnaire survey is applied to evaluate the effectiveness of the OEE metric implementation program. nThe result of the study shows the OEE aggregate for the factory level, sub-factory level, and operating cell level. Result of questionnaire study reveals the opinion and feeling of the manufacturing personnel towards the OEE metric. Result of statistical analysis on potential association of OEE to higher level of KPI such as customer service level gives the management insight of the function of each KPI. nThe study concludes that implementation of OEE pilot program has been conducted effectively and further implementation of improvement program is recommended in connection with the OEE metric.
