Auto-tuning pi controller based on genetic algorithms
The purpose of this project is to implement Genetic Algorithms (GA) as an optimization technique for tuning a digital PI controller which is used to control the speed of the squirrel cage AC motor. GA is designed to search the best parameters of the controller with the aim of obtaining the minimal Integral of Absolute Error (IAE). As an off-line auto-tuning technique, GA only needs the transfer function of the system that has to be optimized. Therefore, GA is very flexible and can be applied to all systems or plants that can be transformed into a transfer function. The result showed a good performance by the designed digital PI controller that was tuned by the GA program. Genetic algorithms tuning produced a fast and stable response in the closed-loop system with a low percentage of maximum overshoot.
