Designing and constructing a pc controlled automatic pcb drilling machine

Manurung, Edward Boris P. - Personal Name; Hermanto, Yohan Prasetya - Personal Name;

In PCB Manufacturing, drilling process is a very important stage. The Automatic PCB drilling machine is developed as a substitution to manual drilling machine. In manual machine, it turns out that a lot of holes to be drilled repetitively may cause accuracy and effectiveness problems due to the boredom limitation that the technician suffers. While in automatic machine, this problem can be eliminated. Another advantage is that it also reduces the production cost. The Automatic PCB Drilling Machine will do drilling process automatically according PCB layout in CAD software. The machine is constructed by 3 axes shafts. X and Y axes are used to move the drilling head into certain position. Z axis is used to drive the drilling unit up and down. The first step is to design, to manufacture, to assemble the machine, and to make interfacing between the machine and PC. After finalizing this step, one needs to develop the electronic controller to control the motors and the software application to run the machine. Position sensors are used at the X, Y, and Z shafts. The feedback from sensor is used to give the current position of the drilling head.rnrnThis thesis is concerned about controlling and interfacing PCB drilling machine using PC. The PC should drive the overall process of the machine. Since this project will be done by two persons, the controlling local system of the machine will be done by Arie Pramono.
