Designing and developing a prototype low cost wind turbine to produce electricity
By using a wind turbine, wind energy can be captured to produce electricity. This thesis is concerned of designing and making a simple of wind turbine. This wind turbine consists of the following parts: blade, alternator, tail and tower. As electrical components are bridge diodes, voltage regulator, battery bank, and inverter. The thesis focuses on how to design an alternator that able to produce 250 watts electricity. This wind turbine is designed with 12 poles permanent magnets on rotor and 10 stationary coils. 3 blades revolve the rotor shaft. Revolving permanent magnets on the rotor produce magnetic field and cause electric current passes through the stationary coils. Before the alternating current go into battery bank, current passed through the rectifier bridge and next is regulated by LM 723 voltage regulator. After these processes complete, current has to passing through the inverter before we can use it. The work of this thesis project was begun by designing a mechanical design and electrical design, constructing all parts, and wiring.
