Development of disposable biosensor based on screen printed carbon electrode for glucose detection
A glucose sensor could be of likely benefit for diabetic patients in the management of their blood glucose concentration. For example, real-time measurement of glucose may be used to notify the patient when his blood glucose is too low or in the automatic feedback-controlled administration of insulin when blood glucose exceeds normal levels. In this study, a three electrode configuration of biosensor for glucose detection was constructed. A modified carbon electrode was used for working electrode. The performance of glucose biosensor depends mostly on the immobilization method and support materials. In addition, to enhance the electron transfer, the mediated 1.1'dimethylferrocene was used. The qualitative information about the electrochemical reactions on the biosensor was determined by cyclic voltammetry. The biosensor is effective in range for glucose detection is in between 10 - 100 mg/dL. Some improvement needs to be conducted to obtain the better quality of biosensor.
