Designing an object sorting system using a manipulator with an application of image processing
Image processing in today's world grabs massive attentions as it leads to possibilities of broaden application in many fields of high technology such as intelligent system. This thesis presents a design of a mechatronics color sorting system with the application of image processing. Supported by OpenCV, computer vision library, image processing procedure senses the availability of circular objects then extracts color and position information. This data was passed as commands to trigger the manipulator, Mitsubishi Movemaster RV - M1, through serial communication to do a pick-and-place mechanism for the color based separation. This color sorting system worked 100% accurate under ideal condition in term of illumination, objects' shape and color. For non ideal condition, such as unspecified color the accuracy reached 80%. This design, using both technology of image processing and automation handling device, can be implemented to increase the performance of production system.
