The role of intellectual property right (mark) in the success of business enterprise
Dispute over trademark in Indonesia is very intense, at least 142 cases happened in 2007 alone. As an example, Extra Joss as one of the prominent energy drink trademark was attacked by a new comer, Enerjos. The similarities of both trademarks create confusion for the public. rnrnTo explore this study, literature research, internet exploration and interviews with professional are the methodology used to accelerate the analysis. In addition, these cases also being supported with the result from public opinion concerning the level of knowledge regarding trademark. rnrnThe result shows that public awareness on trademark matters is still need improvement. The analysis found that a solid trademark is an outcome of hard work and combination of good management along with good quality product and services. rnrnEven though it is costly and takes time to create a strong trademark, it is worthwhile being registered. Once the trademark is taken by competitors, all brand value and brand image will go along to their company. Thus, every business people should start considering about registering their trademark in advance before the competitors claim it as theirs.
