Isolation of antioxidant compounds from local indonesian mangosteen rind

Law, Nilawaty - Personal Name; Cahyana, Antonius Herry - Personal Name;

The primary purpose of this research is to investigate antioxidant properties of ethanol, ethyl acetate and n-hexane extract of mangosteen rind. The evaluation of the antioxidant properties can be done by using DPPH and the evaluation of total phenolics acid in mangosteen rind can be done by using Folin Ciocalteau. Then the antioxidant compounds can be identified by using GC-MS. The research was done by extraction. The extraction processes include maceration, blending, soaking, and distillation. Mangosteen rind which extracted using ethanol shows higher antioxidant activity than n-hexane and ethyl acetate extract. In total phenolics acids, ethyl acetate extract of mangosteen rind shows higher amount of total phenolics acids than ethanol and n-hexane extract. While in identify the antioxidant compound in mangosteen rind extract using GC-MS, it shows that n-hexane extract has more antioxidant compounds than ethyl acetate and ethanol.
