Improvement of quality control processes in PT. Garuda Maintenance Facility by implementing six sigma: a study concerning maintenance activities of aircraft engine as a valuable asset utilizing six sigma as the quality guidelines
Quality improvement in this thesis is defined to propose Six Sigma to determine the root cause of variations and provide solutions for an Aircraft Engine Maintenance Facility. Variations within the aircraft maintenance facility are mostly due to the deviations maintenance process TAT (Turn Around Time), while Six Sigma as a methodology presenting itself as a way to integrate project executor actions towards improving business performance through problem solving methods and techniques. Therefore, such methodology of improvement should be implemented in such a way to reduce the variability and thus able to increase process performance value of Aircraft Engine Maintenance in PT. GMF AeroAsia. This project focuses on implementation of Six Sigma methodology for an Aircraft Engine Maintenance Unit which based on the structured steps of DMAIC Improvement model used as Six Sigma infrastructure. DMAIC model is viewed as a structured framework of Six Sigma project which utilizes Quality Control tools to define the problems, measure the current according to Defect per Million Opportunities , analyze process and determine gap between current system and the expected, and providing possible solutions for the problems as final deliverables.
