Indonesia is blessed by having a variety of traditional and theatrical arts. One of its prominent forms is wayang, which are traditional drama and puppet plays inherinted from the hindu-islamic culture of over thousand years ago.The purposes in this thesis are to explore the impact in the era globalization for Indonesian culture especially for wayang kulit, to identify the fundamental problems of the lack interest of wayang kulit culture performance in the society of Indonesian people and to explore how much contribute the goverment for wayang kulit as the one of Indonesian traditional culture performance. The research is descriptive. The method is qualitative with supporting quantitative data, using observation, interviews, and questionnaires as research techniques. Source of data was primary and secondary. As for qualitative data research, having interviewed various experts from both the government and dalang community, author conclude that globalization requires the culture of wayang kulit to come up with new innovations. Innovations are crucially needed to attract Indonesian society's interest to explore the world of wayang kulit. As for quantitative data research, author found that the younger generation does not have much interest in wayang kulit because of the show's long duration and its not-straight-to-the-point- plot. However, if the wayang kulit shows could offer creative innovations, the younger generation state that they would love to see the shows. In conclusion, the art wayang kulit has to be brave enough to innovate and preserve itself to keep it up-to-date with the globalization process, and more importantly, to call upon the people of Indonesia to rediscover their own culture.
