Understanding the impacts of Korean wave (hallyu) among high school teenagers in BSD City

The existence of media recently has no boundaries around the world especially when the Internet has appeared. People are much easier to get information from every kind of aspects. Along with the existence of the Internet, there are many social media that has been created, for instance Facebook, Twitter and others. Based on the mentions above, this study has purpose to understand the responses and to find out the impacts of Korean wave among high school teenagers in BSD City. Three main points that are discussed include the influencers, the impacts to the teenagers and their media habit. Through Focus Group Discussion, the study finds out that Korean wave is affecting most of the teenager's behavior. Peers and family, social and mainstream media are the main influencers on the teenagers to follow Korean wave. This phenomenon produces various impacts; such as producing motivation travel to South Korea, increasing interest to learn Korean language course and increasing the purchasing behavior for Korean products.
