Experimental and numerical study of evaporation kinetics of isopropanol-water mixture

This thesis work investigates the systematic dependence of the evaporation rate on the temperature and velocity of dry air during isothermal evaporation of isopropanol (1) - water (2) mixture.The errors of experimental data is evaluated. The experiments were done in a vessel at various dry air temperatures (50┬░C, 60┬░C, and 70┬░C) and velocities (u = 5.510 m/s and u =10.083 m/s) at an isopropanol molar fraction of ~ ? 0.2 . An A B x1 increase of evaporation rate with air velocity and temperature is confirmed.The error propagation analysis yields an acceptable precision with 8.13-10.31% of relative error. The experimental and theoretical values are in the same order of magnitude. The experimental value of evaporation rate of isopropanol is found to be a factor of 0.59-2.70 larger than the theoretical value using the linear ansatz, compared to a factor of 0.34-2.45 using the logarithmic ansatz, which indicates that the logarithmic ansatzis more accurate than the linear ansatz. The smallest deviation, the factors 0.34 and 0.59, is obtained at the highest temperature of 70oC, signifying high suitability of logarithmic ansatz for high temperatures due to enhanced convective effects.
