The Cultural tourism Attraction History and Development of Minangkabau Traditional House

Minangkabau traditional house or known as rumah gadang is a house as a landmark or reflect of the minangkabau societies in past time. Nowadays, the number of rumah gadang is decrease because the minangkabau societies do not want build the house again and among young generation is not really interest to know the history, motifs, and process of establishment of rumah gadang. Beside that, the material of the house is expensive, so it will spend much money required. If the minangkabau societies are not aware or care with their culture especially their traditional house, so Minangkabau traditional house will be extinct. the purposes in this thesis are to learn the history and process of establishment of Minangkabau traditional house, to explore the development possibility the Minangkabau traditional house as cultural tourism attraction, and to increase the appreciation level of toward Minangkabau traditional house. the research is descriptive. the method is qualitative, using observation, interviews, and additional data provided. Source of data was primary and secondary. the research found that the Minangkabau traditional house in nagari seribu rumah gadang could be applied as cultural tourist attraction and a mandatory subject at schools.
